Where is Novum Hair Studio?
Inside Sola Salons at 5171 Mission Center Rd, Studio 21, in Mission Valley, San Diego. Enter Sola Salons, turn right, and the studio is the first corner studio on the left.
What are your hours?
Monday and Tuesday 2 PM to 8 PM, and Wednesday through Friday 9 AM to 3 PM. On weekends you can still book online.
How do I book?
Online through the booking page, any day of the week.
Do you take walk-ins?
Only occasionally, because the building's front door is usually locked. Aprille can often fit in last-minute requests, so call (215) 262-7748.
What is a private suite?
A private studio instead of an open salon floor. There is no crowd and no noise, and every appointment is just you and Aprille.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
Most services need no deposit. If Aprille requires one, she tells you the amount before your appointment and takes it in person, never online.
What is your cancellation policy?
For an appointment booked without a deposit, cancelling less than 24 hours before it or missing it may carry a fee of 20% of the booked service price. Deposit and date-change rules are on the policies page.
Color, balayage and highlights
How much is balayage?
Partial balayage is $300 and full balayage is $360. Both include a custom gloss toner and B3 bond builder, and full balayage also includes end lightening (tip out).
How much are highlights?
Partial highlights and toner are $210 and full highlights and toner are $270. Both include a gloss toner and B3 bond builder.
What's the difference between balayage and highlights?
Choose balayage for a beachy look with no line of demarcation. Choose classic highlights for light right to the root, with only about an inch of regrowth.
How long does a color appointment take?
Balayage usually takes about 3 hours and highlights about 2.5 hours. It depends on how much hair you have and how bright you want to go.
How often should I come back?
Usually every 4 to 6 months for balayage, every 2 to 4 months for highlights, and every 4 to 8 weeks for a root touch-up.
Do you use a bond builder?
Yes. B3 bond builder is included with highlights, balayage and bleach and tone services, to help protect your hair's strength while it lightens.
Do I need a consultation or patch test first?
Usually not. If you have reacted to a color ingredient before, tell Aprille before your appointment.
Cuts and treatments
How much is a haircut?
A short haircut and style, for any length above the shoulder, is $85. A long haircut and style is $95. Both include a shampoo and a professional blow-dry. See haircuts in Mission Valley.
Do you cut men's and children's hair?
Yes. Men's cuts are booked as a short haircut and style ($85), and a child's haircut for ages 1 to 12 is $40.
Do you work with thick, curly or wavy hair?
Yes. Aprille works with all hair types and textures.
Is your keratin treatment formaldehyde-free?
Yes. The keratin smoothing treatment ($280) is formaldehyde-free. It reduces frizz while keeping your natural curl pattern.
Hair extensions
Do you do hair extensions?
Extensions are done under Hair Extensions by Aprille, Aprille's separate extension business in the same suite. She offers hand-tied and I-tip extensions, and the first consultation is free.
